Miyeni

I believe that hate speech should be "allowed" . That is I believe that I should in normal discourse say what I want without any sanction - it is any physical action that is wrong and should be punished.

So when

Miyeni says that “in the 80s she'd [Haffajee] probably have had a burning tyre around her neck”.

It should be fine. Let us call it freedom of speech.

“Who the devil is she anyway if not a black snake in the grass, deployed by white capital to sow discord among blacks?”

If that offends her (Haffajee) ... ag shame.

But I feel he is a poepol for saying it. What shall we do with a (now, if I use a hateful term here, such as "Xy!@#") like this? It could be construed as derogatory if I were to say that and very inappropriate in the current mileu. People say wrong things, hateful things, derogatory things ... just do not break my bones.

That is why poepol is the most appropriate term. Poepol.
